Insurance FAQs
1) Why are our prices higher than online websites?
We will match any online price WITHOUT USING YOUR VISION INSURANCE.
Vision Insurances give allowances (i.e. $120 allowance and then 20% off the overage). VSP does not give us $120. They use a complicated formula and give us just a portion of that. We have lost money in the past by pricing frames similarly to that of online retailers because VSP reimburses such a small percentage of the allowance. If we were to match online prices AND use vision insurance, we would lose money because our costs for the frame, taxes, shipping, etc. would be higher than what VSP reimburses us for that frame. We have to "markup" frames when using insurance based on their formula of our reimbursements. We try to price our frames competitively with other private practice optometrists, and we will match any other private practice optometry office that allows you to use your vision insurance.
2) I have vision insurance why do I have still have to pay for eyeglasses or contact lenses?
Vision insurances usually cover a portion of your eyeglasses or contact lenses. I like to think of vision insurance as giving you discounts and approximately saving you 50% on products. You can get what is only covered by insurance, but many times the quality of the frame (generic) and lenses (CR39) will not hold up over time.
